There is a general mix conception that food you buy from a street vendor is by definition not healthy.
I have to disagree with that and here are a few of the reasons for that.

Every street vendor is under strict rules from the New York health department. Here each and every one of them have to apply for a permit.
As an old entrepreneur and being in the food business for most of my life, I can tell you from experience that this is a very strict program.
Street vendors will be checked just like any brick and mortar business that sells food in New York.
This by itself is already insurance that your food will be prepared by high standards and according to all the rules set by the health department.
Healthy Street Food
Now we can talk if street food is healthy or not and that is a totally different subject.
This is up to you to decide and we all have our own standards on what is healthy and what is not.
I stay away from sugar as much as I can and also try to eat food low in sodium.
These foods can be found in the streets, but you might have to look for them.
Altogether it is my opinion that street food by definition not has to be unhealthy.
it is all what you choose and where you buy it. All food is prepared by high standards and in a hygenic way.
You decide what you put in your mouth and what kind of condiments you use on that food.
